Job Description
1.
Develops
plans for the intermediate and long-term development of the college by seeking
input of faculty and staff and department chairs;
2.
Develops
a vision for the college and builds support within the college for that
vision. The vision is based on the
University’s mission and the current and future academic environment, and the
vision is articulated in a strategic plan that delineates clearly the
directions the college should take and steps necessary to realize the vision;
3.
Supervises
the development and application of personnel policies and procedures within the
college, and ensure compliance with University personnel policies and procedures;
4.
Ensures
that incentive and reward systems are fair and consistent with college goals
and objectives;
5.
Demonstrates
a commitment to the recruitment, advancement, and maintenance of a diverse
community of faculty and staff;
6.
Identifies
faculty and staff personnel needs;
7.
Establishes
priorities;
8.
Leads
recruitment, hiring, and retention activities;
9.
Ensures
equitable allocation of faculty and staff among departments and administrative
units within the college;
10.
Encourages
and facilitates both short-run and long-run professional development of faculty
and staff;
11.
Initiates
and supports activities to achieve excellence in undergraduate and graduate
teaching, research, continuing education, and service to the community. These activities include program
accreditation, ongoing curricula review, and systems for quality assurance;
12.
Develops
and supports a student-recruiting program that provides excellence and
diversity within the student body;
13.
Maintains
programs for effective academic advising;
14.
Provides
support to student organizations and activities;
15.
Raises
funds and assists faculty and chairpersons in raising funds to support faculty and staff development and college initiatives;
16.
Stimulates
the acquisition of new resources for the college by supporting and rewarding
external fundraising and extramural grant and contract funding;
17.
Prepares
and administers the college budget and equitably allocates funds among
administrative units within the college;
19.
Provides
academic and educational leadership through personal example of his or her
faculty accomplishments;
20.
Facilitates
systematic communication with constituencies of the college, including faculty,
staff, students, campus colleagues, alumni, the community and the profession;
21.
Demonstrates
strong interpersonal and communication skills, including an open communication
style and a commitment to collegial dialogue with administrators, faculty and
staff within the college and the university;
22.
Increases
the visibility of the college and strengthens its ties to the region’s business
community; and
23.
Fosters
a culture of development and growth among faculty and staff and creates a forum
for the free expression of ideas and opinions.
